As you plan out your professional development and required training for the year, make sure to consider applying for one of the Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation’s Credit Union Development Grants. The deadline to apply is Feb. 21.
These grants are available to Cornerstone credit unions in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas and consist of various requests that promote the success and advancement of credit unions. This may include attending the Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE) Program as well as training opportunities offered by the Cornerstone Credit Union League or other industry-related organizations.
Here’s one example of how a development grant helped one credit union employee achieve her Development Educator designation:
"Without this grant from the Foundation, I would not have had the opportunity to attend DE for many years to come," said Katie Toon, assistant branch manager with Resource One Credit Union. "At my credit union, most of the people who have their CUDE certification are in upper management, which is great. I believe that for CUDE to have its full effect, it must come from the top. There needs to be support for upper management to make the kind of change that DE promotes. That being said, we still had plenty of people in upper management who needed to go through this training before I would have the chance. This grant made it possible for me to become a CUDE.”
Toon added, "With this certification, I have learned so much, and I have new ideas of how to grow our credit union while addressing those development issues that face the community we serve."
