For the tenth year in a row, Education Credit Union awarded Pocket Change Grants to area schools. The grants are made possible by ECU employees who donate money for the privilege of wearing jeans on Fridays, and ECU’s Board of Directors generously matched the employee’s donations.
Since the Pocket Change Grants inception in 2009, ECU has donated more than $350,000 to school districts across the panhandle. In 2019, Education Credit Union donated $44,863.97. ECU’s annual Pocket Change Grant opens to area teachers in August. The grant is designed for teachers needing additional help prepping for the school year. The grant application closes in October, and grants are delivered before the Christmas holiday.
The items most requested by teachers were science equipment, musical instruments, library and classroom book sets, math manipulatives, cameras, and sensory tools.
