Chapter Leaders Conference | Sept. 4, 2019 | San Antonio, Texas

Chapter Leaders ConferenceThe 2019 Chapter Leaders Conference, Sept. 4 in San Antonio, embraces the benefits of participating in chapters while becoming more collaborative and dynamic leaders. Whether you're new to chapters or a seasoned leader, the 2019 Chapter Leaders Conference will affirm how belonging to a chapter aids in developing leaders who can positively impact their communities and how honing your ability to engage with lawmakers not only expands your sphere of influence but elevates your career to a higher trajectory. We can't wait to see you!
Have you set up recess meetings with your lawmakers?
The summer recess for Congress is the best opportunity to meet with your representatives in their home districts. Specific recess dates for prime time for meet-ups are as follows:
US House:July 29 – Sept. 6
US Senate:Aug. 5 – Sept. 6
Your elected officials want to engage with you, so we encourage your chapter to invite them to speak at your August chapter meeting. You still have time to set that up.
Another option is for your chapter to host a town hall or similar event where you invite not only your chapter members, but also the people you have in common: your lawmakers' credit union member constituents.
Chapter members can also visit with lawmakers in their district offices.
If the above ideas aren't options for your chapter, get creative! Any event that allows you opportunities to mingle with lawmakers and have important conversations is a great way to heighten the awareness of credit unions, so they will remember us when they return to work in DC.
Keep in mind, whatever event you choose will require planning, organizing, coordination, and time—and because the recess will be upon us soon, now is the time to start preparing. If you need help, let us know. Contact April Krause at

With 12 new members of Congress representing the Cornerstone region, new board members Rodney Hood and Todd Harper at the NCUA, and new CFPB Director Kathy Kraninger, there's no better time to be in DC spreading the message about the credit union difference.

Remember, bankers will only continue, if not increase, their attacks on credit unions. We need your presence and your voice at Hike the Hill. We have important issues to discuss that include not only protecting our credit union tax exemption, but also strengthening data breach standards and mitigating regulatory burdens, to name a few.
"We should never under estimate the impact that attending Hike the Hill can make on lawmakers and regulators," said Cornerstone Government Relations Executive Director Gretchen Ziegler. "Hike the Hill is a great opportunity to teach those who make the laws and issue the regulations about our core principles and philosophy and relate the stories of our credit unions and how we serve our members and communities in ways no other financial institutions can."
Watch for more details at our website. We can't wait to see you in DC!
