August 2019 Chapter Report

Has Your Chapter Set Up Recess Meetings with Lawmakers?
The summer recess for Congress is the best opportunity to meet with your representatives in their home districts. Your elected officials want to engage with you, so we encourage your chapter to invite them to speak at your August chapter meeting. You still have time to set that up. Specific recess dates for prime time meet-ups are as follows:
US House:July 29 – Sept. 6
US Senate:Aug. 5 – Sept. 6
Another option is for your chapter to host a town hall or similar event where you invite not only your chapter members, but also the people you have in common: your lawmakers' credit union member constituents.
Chapter members can also visit with lawmakers in their district offices.
If the above ideas aren't options for your chapter, get creative! Any event that allows you opportunities to mingle with lawmakers and have important conversations is a great way to heighten the awareness of credit unions, so they will remember us when they return to work in DC.
If you need help planning or arranging your meeting, let us know. Contact April Krause at
Back Your PAC—Support the 'Raising My Influence' Campaign
Back Your PACOur Young Professionals are the future of the credit union movement. If you're attending this year's Young Professionals Conference in Austin, Aug. 15–16, you'll have the opportunity to show your support for credit unions by participating in the "Raising My Influence" campaign.
At the 2018 Young Professionals Conference, our very enthusiastic YPs reported their most successful YP PAC fundraiser to date. During their Raising My Influence campaign, 50 attendees committed to contributing through payroll deduction or recurring credit card over a 12-month period to raise $4,059!
The need for strong engagement and influence with lawmakers statewide and in Washington, DC, is why political action campaigns like Raising My Influence are so vital. So, at this year's YP Conference, we're challenging the YP attendees to raise their contributions with the goal of collectively reaching $4,500 over the next 12-month period.
Even if you’re unable to attend this years’ YP Conference, we encourage you to show your support for credit unions and the PAC. Contribute to the Raising My Influence.
We hope we can count on your support in this year's fundraiser. If you have any questions, please contact Gretchen Ziegler at, or call 469-385-6484 or 800-442-5762, ext. 6484.
