Thursday, October 17, 2013 5:45 AM

The Governors of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas have all signed proclamations acknowledging today as International Credit Day.

In signing the proclamation, the governors acknowledge that credit unions have championed the idea that people from all walks of life should have access to affordable financial services offered by credit unions, and that credit unions empower people to improve their economic situations in 101 nations around the world at more than 56,000 credit unions that serve the financial needs of 200 million people.

The proclamation signed by Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, and Texas Governor Rick Perry states that credit unions, including the 643 credit unions in the Cornerstone Credit Union League region embrace a “people-helping-people” philosophy through the pooling of personal resources and leadership abilities for the good of the cooperative, empowering members to improve their financial futures and uniting to help those in need.

The proclamation also highlights that credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives, democratically owned and operated and founded by people working together toward economic advancement.
