Texas saw record-setting turnout in early voting, with 57.3% of registered voters casting ballots in person and by mail. This surpassed the total number of votes cast in 2016. Voter registration has grown along with Texas’ population, which added 1.8 million more registered voters over that of 2016, for an increase of 12.3%.
Senator John Cornyn (R) defeated MJ Hegar (D) to win his fourth term in the U.S. Senate. Republican Sen. Ted Cruz was not up for election this year.
The race to replace Kenny Marchant (R) remains too close to call. Beth Van Duyne (R) holds a slight lead over Candace Valenzuela (D).
Sen. Pat Fallon (R) won his race for a congressional seat and will resign his senate seat. The run-off election to fill his seat is between Rep. Drew Springer (R) and political newcomer Shelly Luther (R), the Dallas area salon owner known for defying Gov. Greg Abbott’s mandate to close salons. The run-off will be held Dec. 19.
