Did you miss our latest YP Advocacy Meetup? Don’t worry…we’ve got a recap for you.
October’s YP meetup featured speaker Dan Newberry, chief operating officer at TTCU Federal Credit Union, and a panel of your peers who shared their recent experience as Hike the Hill Crashers.
Author, entrepreneur, and businessman Dan Newberry is a retired Oklahoma State Senator who served in the Oklahoma State Senate for 10 years. He was chairman of the Business and Commerce Committee and worked across the aisle to achieve comprehensive business reforms which helped Oklahoma maintain less than 5% unemployment during the Great Recession.
Newberry shared his experiences in the senate with the YP meetup attendees, pointing out how young professionals can become advocates, where to start, how important the YP voice is, and how he overcame the negativity that he faced in his position.
Additionally, two of your YP advisors hosted the Hike the Hill Crasher panel featuring Diana Padilla, Stefy Tomlin, and Tiffany Greenway. The three panelists recently traveled to Hike the Hill in Washington D.C. as the recipients of the Cornerstone crasher scholarship. They had the unique opportunity to meet and learn from legislators and regulators and discussed important issues facing the credit union industry.
The panelists raved about their experiences, shared what they learned, their most memorable experiences, and what they took back to their credit union.
Crasher opportunities happen all year long and there is still time to apply for the next crasher event, Crash the GAC. Crash the GAC is a fast-paced, grassroots career-changing opportunity, brought to us by a partnership between CUNA, The Cooperative Trust, and leagues, for emerging credit union young professionals. This program sets the stage for participants to dive into the industry’s largest advocacy conference while providing them with opportunities for networking, leadership development, and mentoring sessions with industry leaders.
Don’t miss out on your chance to advocate for credit unions. Apply here.
Also, save the date for the next YP meetup, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. Watch the Cornerstone League website for more information.
Credit union young professionals have access to a program dedicated to help you engage, empower, and create an impact.
