Join us for our upcoming YP Advocacy Meetup Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. CT. This meetup will feature speaker Dan Newberry as well as a panel of your peers discussing their recent experience as crashers at Hike the Hill.

Newberry is an author, entrepreneur, businessman, speaker, and the current chief operating officer for TTCU Federal Credit Union.

From 2008 to January 2018, Newberry served as an Oklahoma senator for District 37. During this time, he became known as an advocate for small business and credit unions, serving as the business, commerce, and tourism committee chair.

As our speaker, Newberry will discuss the importance of voting, volunteering, and engaging as young professionals when it comes time for elections. He will also provide additional background information and firsthand experiences about the importance of meeting with elected officials to discuss crucial topics pertaining to the credit union movement.

As mentioned, the October meetup will also feature a panel of your peers discussing the most recent crasher opportunity, Hike the Hill. Hike the Hill is a grassroots program that provides credit unions the chance to visit Washington, D.C., to discuss with elected officials the issues most important to credit unions. This year, three young professional crashers attended Hike the Hill, which took place Sept. 27–29. Each crasher received a $1,000 scholarship to help with travel expenses.

Crash Hike the Hill is a great platform for young professionals to interact with and learn from legislators and regulators. The crashers enjoyed jam-packed days filled with speaker events and special sessions that dug into the importance of why we advocate, what happens when we don’t, and how to make the most out of meetings with lawmakers and policymakers.

Register for the Oct. 18 meetup.
