Credit unions have done an excellent job of paving the way for various DEI initiatives and as there has been much change within the industry, there is great hope for what the future will hold. As change continues to be implemented, credit union young professionals can take part in DEI initiatives by partaking in committees, councils, and more. This month, we conclude our DEI series and discuss the concept of inclusion. To understand inclusion, let’s breakdown the components of this notion.

Inclusion is the practice of providing everyone with equal access to opportunities and resources. Inclusion efforts in the workplace help give traditionally marginalized groups, like those based on gender, race, or even those with physical or mental disabilities, a means for them to feel equal in the workplace. Similar to diversity, inclusion helps bring together a multitude of voices to make a more comprehensive environment.

Inclusion in the workplace will continue to be a vital component for many years to come. As inclusion is integrated and complimented through initiatives, programs, and committees, organization leaders must recognize that the success of their efforts are carried out through employees and participation from the organization as a whole. By implementing inclusion within the workplace, employees can have a greater sense of engagement and a sense of belonging. As employees experience a greater sense of belonging through inclusion, individuals can be assured that there is room to thrive. Inclusion can help bring about the positive change that is needed for the success of credit union professionals well into the future.
