Victories worth celebrating

Posted: Sep 23, 2020 | Author: Caroline Willard

In this week’s Leaguer, we see many victories worth celebrating. For starters, the CUNA-League advocacy system has been enormously successful. Together, we are the most influential financial services organization and one of the top 10 most effective advocacy organizations in Washington, D.C.

Another thing we’re celebrating at the League is the promotion of two of our employees—Jim Phelps and Miranda Gibson. With Advocacy at the center of our member efforts, it was a natural decision to promote Jim to the EVP post. Miranda, who has been a driving force on several projects, helping us understand our credit unions on a deeper level, has been promoted to operations consultant & data analyst. In her new role, she will be working with small credit unions and supporting the ALM department.

The “Hart” of our organization, Kart Hart also has announced her retirement, which will go into effect in April 2021. Although it's difficult to see Karen go, we are celebrating her 41 years of dedicated service.

With International Credit Union Day around the corner, we’ll be shining the spotlight on a few of our member credit unions who exemplify the theme of “Inspiring hope for a global community.” We’re starting with a feature on Greater Texas FCU. Not only does the credit union focus on community engagement and products and services to give members control of their financial futures, but it also invests in financial education and literacy to help individuals from all walks of life.

As part of our ICU Day celebration, we are asking you to send a short video clip by Oct. 6, explaining how your credit union embodies this year’s theme, “Inspiring hope for a global community.” I look forward to hearing your stories.

You’ll see these stories and more in this week’s issue. I hope you enjoy it.
