Foundation Grants Help Growing Oaks Expand Financial Education

Wed September 23, 2026

With approximately $3 million in assets, Growing Oaks Federal Credit Union is showing how a small credit union can create meaningful community impact.

Through $15,000 in Cornerstone Foundation Community Impact Grants — awarded at $5,000 annually from 2024 through 2026 — the Oklahoma credit union expanded its financial education outreach from classes enrolling 21 community members in 2024 to programming reaching more than 600 people in 2026.

Building Financial Confidence

Working with nonprofit partner Growing Oaks Association, the credit union delivers financial education through Elevation Station and the Cornerstone Foundation’s BALANCED Life Reality Fair. Participants learn about spending plans, savings, debt, credit, and financial decision-making.

In 2024, classes at Hope Center Ministries and Exchange Avenue Baptist Church enrolled 21 people. Pre- and post-program questionnaire scores increased 61% and 67%, respectively. One participant began saving and paid cash for a cellphone rather than borrowing from family, while another received guidance to resolve a financial issue exceeding $7,000.

Expanding the Reach

Growing Oaks expanded into student programming in 2025, reaching 377 participants from 30 career programs at Mid-America Technology Center. By 2026, its outreach had grown to more than 600 people through reality fairs and additional financial education sessions.

Program materials have also supported mini reality fairs for people facing employment barriers and individuals preparing for life after release from the Cleveland County detention center.

Turn an Idea Into Impact

Cornerstone Foundation Community Impact Grants help credit unions launch or expand programs addressing barriers to financial well-being. Grants of up to $10,000 are available year-round, based on need, impact, and available resources.
