Building Financial Confidence Early

Both Texas credit unions are working with Dream Publishing to distribute co-branded copies of Start Young and Build Freedom, an illustrated book that introduces entrepreneurship, money management, and financial independence through storytelling and real-world examples. A+FCU will share the resource through youth programs, school partnerships, and community events across Central Texas, while 5Point will place copies in the hands of teens and families throughout Southeast Texas and North Houston.

“What makes this book special is that it doesn’t just teach financial concepts—it helps youth see what’s possible for themselves,” said Priscilla Olvera, director of community education and scholarships at A+FCU.

The collaborations build on each credit union’s established commitment to education. A+FCU works with schools and educators, provides free financial education curricula and presentations, and conducts money management simulations for young people. 5Point supports students, schools, and families across its communities while promoting healthy financial habits.

“We’re investing in our next generation by providing them with the tools to form healthy financial habits,” said 5Point President/CEO Erik Shaw.

Extending the Credit Union Difference

By making financial lessons accessible and relatable, A+FCU and 5Point are helping young people connect today’s decisions with tomorrow’s opportunities.

“Financial education can change the trajectory of a young person’s life,” said Cornerstone League President/CEO Caroline Willard. “A+FCU and 5Point show how credit unions can use their community relationships to turn knowledge into confidence and confidence into opportunity."
