Cornerstone Foundation, Raiz FCU Help Spotlight Credit Union Impact at Congressional Event

Cornerstone Foundation Executive Director Courtney Moran and Raiz Federal Credit Union President/CEO Max Villaronga recently participated in The Opportunity Knock$ Congressional Panel Discussion and Reception, a Washington event held in recognition of Financial Capability Month.
Hosted by Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, and Rep. Young Kim, R-Calif., the event brought together members of Congress, credit union leaders, and other financial partners to highlight the role community-based institutions play in expanding financial access, education, and long-term stability for families.
For credit unions, that visibility matters. “Events like this help reinforce what the movement sees every day: Credit unions are not just financial service providers. They are trusted partners that help members navigate challenges, build confidence, and find practical paths forward,” said Caroline Willard, Cornerstone League president/CEO.
America’s Credit Unions Chief Advocacy Officer Kathleen Coulombe underscored that point in her remarks, noting that the Opportunity Knock$ series highlights “real families, real challenges, and real solutions,” and shows that regardless of someone’s financial situation, there is often a credit union ready to listen and help.
Moran and Villaronga joined other movement leaders on panel discussions focused on financial access, education, and coordinated support systems that help individuals and families build financial stability. Their participation helped ensure the credit union perspective was represented in a national conversation about economic opportunity and financial well-being.
Willard added, “The strong presence of leagues, foundations, and member credit unions at the event also reflected a broader truth: When the movement shows up together, it strengthens the case for credit unions as essential community partners and effective solutions providers for the people they serve.”
