In Memoriam: Devora Mitchell

Thu February 26, 2026

Devora Denice Mitchell, a respected credit union leader and devoted community servant, passed away on Feb. 20 in Odessa, Texas. Born Nov. 30, 1957, in San Antonio, Mitchell dedicated her life to service—both professionally and personally—and her legacy will be remembered by all who knew her.

Mitchell devoted 37 years to Westex Community Credit Union, where she served as CEO and president with unwavering integrity and a deep commitment to helping others. Her leadership strengthened the credit union and left a lasting impact on the members and communities she served in Winkler County and beyond.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Mitchell was actively engaged in her community. She was a member of the Kermit Lions Club and the Women’s Division, served on the Wink-Loving Independent School District school board, and contributed to the Winkler County Hospital Board and a Texas housing board—work that helped advance housing and other critical local initiatives.

Cornerstone League extends heartfelt condolences to Mitchell’s family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Her leadership and spirit will continue to inspire those in the credit union movement and the communities she served.
