Beyond lawmaker visits in DC and the states, Cornerstone member credit unions are activating their members through targeted initiatives:

  • Oklahoma credit unions launched a coordinated branch campaign, with interactive kiosks where members can send personalized messages to their representatives.
  • Credit unions across the region are conducting member surveys to gather specific stories about how credit union membership has improved financial well-being.
  • Heartland Credit Union in Hutchinson, Kansas, just delivered its first 150 postcards to U.S. Rep. Ron Estes’s office and will follow up with social media.

“We’re focusing on quality over quantity in our advocacy,” said Jim Phelps, Cornerstone League EVP/chief advocacy officer. “We’re collecting detailed member testimonials that demonstrate the tangible benefits credit unions provide because of their tax status.”

Let us know how your credit unions are engaging with your lawmakers and advocating for retaining the credit union tax exemption.
