The Leaguer regularly features Young Professional Spotlights to help you get to know these up-and-comers. This month, meet Simone Foster, Sophie Freeman, and Casey Serratos.

Simone Foster

Simone Foster - CommonCents CU

Kelly Davis nominated Simone Foster for this month's spotlight. Why? Because of Foster's exceptional dedication to members and her ability to connect with them on a personal level. With nine years in the industry, Foster is deeply passionate about helping members achieve financial stability, walking alongside them every step of the way.

Davis said Foster's leadership is evident in her hands-on approach to lending and her willingness to step up across different departments. She also volunteers in the community, working with students in public schools to provide financial education and professional development tips.

Foster completed the Cornerstone Leadership Academy in 2022 and became certified in financial counseling in 2023. She continues to bring fresh ideas to the credit union’s lending team and is a strong advocate for member financial education.

"Simone is one of the hardest-working moms I know," Davis said. "She puts her heart into everything she does, making a lasting impact on members and colleagues alike."

Sophie Freeman

Sophie Freeman

Sophie Freeman has been in the credit union industry for nine years, blending her background in nonprofit work and finance to create a meaningful career. She was drawn to Rave Financial Credit Union because of its workplace culture, but she soon found a community and mission that made it much more than just a job.

She is a strong advocate for young professional networking, organizing quarterly YP events in Southeast Texas to bring together credit union professionals from different institutions. Her leadership and dedication to industry collaboration were recognized when she was named one of Southeast Texas Young Professional Organization’s "40 Under 40" in 2023.

A firm believer in lifelong learning, Freeman encourages other young professionals to stay informed, seek professional development, and build their networks.

"This industry is fast-paced and ever-evolving," she says. "Some of my best industry friends have taught me so much, and I’m grateful for that."

Casey Serratos

March YP Spotlights, Casey Serratos

Casey Serratos has been in the credit union industry for 14 years, though she originally came from a banking background. She quickly fell in love with the personalized approach and mission of credit unions, which inspired her to stay and grow within the industry.

She is currently helping lead her credit union’s rebranding initiative, transitioning from a closed to an open field of membership. She is also in her third year at Southwest Credit Union Management School (SCMS), working toward further professional growth.

Outside of work, Serratos enjoys decorating and making flower arrangements. While she believes her colleagues already know all her fun facts, she’s excited about the opportunities ahead.

Serratos' advice to other young professionals? "Get out of your comfort zone and network with your peers. It’s scary, but it’s worth it!"

These young professionals are making a difference in their credit unions and communities. Stay tuned for more YP Spotlights next month!
