This week, in the runup to the general election, Kansas held its primary for state and federal offices. Following are the results of the most significant races.
In the Republican primary, the only contentious race happened in the 2nd congressional district as candidates vied to replace retiring Republican Jake LaTurner. Former Attorney General Derek Schmidt, a CULAC-backed candidate, prevailed. His new opponent
will be former Rep. Nancy Boyda, who won her race on the Democratic side; however, the district has been considered a fairly safe GOP seat for 30 years.
Schmidt recently spoke to Kansas credit union CEOs at a roundtable discussion in Wichita.
If elected in the November general, he will maintain a close relationship with our industry.
Reps. Tracey Mann, Sharice Davids, and Ron Estes did not face serious primary challenges, and Sens. Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall are not up for reelection.
Partially due to redistricting, Kansas saw far fewer contentious primary races than in previous election cycles.
One of the top priorities of Republican and Democratic leadership was to purge “disloyal” members from their
caucuses, and they were successful with the dispatching of Sen. Dennis Pyle (R-Hiawatha) and Rep. Marvin Robinson (D-KC).
All other incumbents were successful in defending their seats.
