Texas election highlights, unofficial returns

Texas held primaries on Super Tuesday this year, March 5, along with 20 other states. Following are the primary election results for Texas as of the latest news cycle. Some results may be subject to change.

 

Congressional Races

U.S. Senate
Colin Allred, currently serving in CD 32, will be the Democratic candidate to face Sen. Ted Cruz.

U.S. House of Representatives
Incumbent Republican Tony Gonzales (CD 23), whose district runs from San Antonio to near El Paso and is the longest border district in the state, will be in a runoff with Brandon Herrera.

Three open House seats in the Dallas-Fort Worth area

  • In the open seat, replacing retiring Republican Kay Granger in CD 12, Craig Goldman, currently serving in Texas House, is in a runoff against John O’Shea.
  • In the open seat, replacing retiring Republican Michael Burgess in CD 26, Republican Brandon Gill wins the primary.
  • In the open seat to replace Democrat Colin Allred in CD 32, Julie Johnson won the primary.

All other congressional incumbents either won their primary or ran unopposed.

 

Texas Races

Texas Senate

  • Open seat, replacing retiring Democrat John Whitmire, SD 15 Houston, current House member Jarvis Johnson is in a runoff with Molly Cook.
  • Open seat, replacing retiring Republican Drew Springer, SD 30 in North Texas, runoffs will take place for both Democratic and Republican primaries.

Texas House

Incumbents in runoff:

  • HD 21 in Beaumont, Republican Speaker of the House Dade Phelan is in a runoff with newcomer David Covey after a close race: 43% to 46%.
  • HD1 in northeast Texas, Republican Rep. Gary Van Deaver is in a runoff with Chris Spencer.
  • HD 33 Rockwall, Republican Rep. Justin Holland defeated by Katrina Pierson.
  • HD 44 Seguin, Republican Rep. John Kuempel in runoff with Alan Schoolcraft.
  • HD 8 Cleburne, Republican Rep. Dwayne Burns in runoff with Helen Kerwin.
  • HD 61 McKinney, Republican Rep. Fredrick Frazier in runoff with Keresa Richardson.
  • HD 64 Denton, Republican Rep. Lynn Stuckey in runoff with Andy Hopper.
  • HD 91 Fort Worth, Republican Rep. Stephanie Klick in runoff with David Lowe.
  • HD 146 Houston, Democratic Rep. Shawn Nicole Thierry in runoff with Lauren Ashley Simmons.

Defeated incumbents

  • HD 11 Nacogdoches, Republican Travis Clardy defeated by Joanne Shafner.
  • HD 18 Houston, Republican Ernest Bailes defeated by Janis Holt.
  • HD 26 Fort Bend County, Republican Jacey Jetton defeated by Matt Morgan.
  • HD 55 Temple, Republican Hugh Shine defeated by Hillary Hickland.
  • HD 60 Graford, Republican Glenn Rogers defeated by Mike Olcott.
  • HD 62 Sherman, Republican Reggie Smith defeated by Shelly Luther.
  • HD 65 Lewisville, Republican Kronda Thimesch defeated by Mitch Little.
  • HD 121 San Antonio, Republican Steve Allison defeated by Marc LaHood.

All other incumbents either won their primary or ran unopposed.
