The Central Texas Chapter of Credit Unions featured Cornerstone League’s Jim Phelps, EVP/chief advocacy officer.
Phelps discussed the 2024 Primary Election and the political environment in Austin and Washington, D.C., noting that early voting is taking place across Texas right now and the official Primary day is a Super Tuesday event, March 5.
He also covered the latest advocacy events around the region and the upcoming America’s Credit Unions’ Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C. The priority issues for that GAC include how credit unions advance their communities; opposing harmful interchange legislation (the Credit Card Competition Act); reforming the CFPB; protecting critical financial services; and helping more veterans get access to business loans.
Phelps spotlighted Cornerstone’s new UNITE grassroots program and the importance of supporting your PAC, including how those funds are utilized to support candidates who support credit unions.
In its mission to expand connections to local communities, the chapter’s February community service project benefited the Human Society of Central Texas. Members donated adult dog and cat food, wet and dry puppy and kitten food, and puppy and kitten formula.
