This year, the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions is celebrating 19 graduates from 11 credit unions from the Chapter Leader Academy.

HCCU’s Chapter Leadership Academy is an exclusive nine-month program designed by credit union professionals for credit union professionals. During training, students learn about each department in the credit union and how they can work together to enhance their members’ financial well-being.

Credit union veterans James Tuggle and Kenny Harrington spearheaded the program and brought in industry leaders to teach students about their expertise in credit unions.

The Chapter Leader Academy Class of 2023 graduates are:

  • Jne Allen, Team Financial Federal
  • Chelsea Arizmendi, Energy Capital Credit Union
  • Alisha Blue, PMD Group
  • Tanisha Campbell, Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union
  • Hillary Cranston, Energy Capital Credit Union
  • Toni Eggins, Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union
  • Danna Hinojosa, Shared Resources Credit Union
  • Breana Kennedy, Union Fidelity Federal Credit Union
  • Catherine Latiolais, Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union
  • Wendy Lopez, Shared Resources Credit Union
  • Tatum McNeil, Transtar Federal Credit Union
  • Maurice McShepard, Energy Capital Credit Union
  • Philip Mosley, Energy Capital Credit Union
  • Roxanne Ortiz, KBR Heritage Federal Credit Union
  • Jeannie Reyes, Southern Federal Credit Union
  • Erika Sanchez, MemberSource Credit Union
  • Daphne Shepherd, MemberSource Credit Union
  • Elvin Tejada, MemberSource Credit Union

The program builds credit union leaders through growth and engagement. Students travel to attend some events to further expand their knowledge about the legislative and regulatory impact on credit unions. For instance, in March, the students took a bus from Houston to Austin to attend the Texas Governmental Affairs Conference. Tuggle and two students attended Hike the Hill in October to meet with legislators in Washington, D.C. Additionally, students volunteered at many HCCU events, including the golf tournament and business expo held earlier this year.
