The 1-to-1Woman Mentoring Program, sponsored by the American Association of Credit Union Leagues, paired nine female Caucasian executives from credit union leagues and foundations with nine rising female African American professionals.

Shellee Mitchell, president of Sapphire Dimension and founder of the program, emphasized its value and encouraged mentors and mentees to learn from each other. She acknowledged that people tend to mentor those who resemble themselves, but African Americans are underrepresented in the credit union movement. The 1-to-1Woman Mentoring Program aims to foster conversations between mentors and mentees regarding gender bias and racial disparities in the workforce.

The mentees included:

  • Chelsea Best from Callahan & Associates
  • Bethaniy Brown and Jasmine Lovelace from Zeal Credit Union
  • Brittany Ortiz, Annisha Rose, and Lydia Hartley from SchoolsFirst FCU
  • Tamara Slaughter from Zeal Credit Union
  • Shayla Tanner from Civic Credit Union
  • April Williams from Congressional Federal Credit Union

The mentors included:

  • Kristi Arrington from the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates
  • Laura Auxter and Emily Leite from the Ohio Credit Union League
  • Mara Humphrey and Andrea Molnau from the Minnesota Credit Union Network
  • Beth Ellis from the Wisconsin Credit Union League
  • Melia Heimbuck from the Credit Union Association of New Mexico
  • Tena Lozano from the Richard Myles Johnson Foundation
  • Courtney Moran from the Cornerstone Foundation
