Cornerstone League has hired former elected official Garry Mize as the new executive director of its political division, the Oklahoma Credit Union Association, effective Nov. 1.
Mize has held office in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, elected in 2018 to represent District 31. He served on several important committees, including Appropriations and Budget, A&B Finance—Revenue and Taxation and Insurance, and as chair of the Select Committee on Utilities. He chose not to seek reelection in 2022.
“Garry Mize brings to the job four years of direct legislative experience in the Oklahoma House of Representatives and more than 18 years of financial industry experience," said Cornerstone EVP/Chief Advocacy Officer Jim Phelps. “His expertise in government policy, strategic partnership building, and in-depth knowledge of financial services will be a tremendous asset to our team and to our member credit unions.”
Previously, Mize worked for 10 years as a financial advisor and managing director of Mize and Associates, an independent firm providing registered investment advisory, insurance, mortgage lending, and estate planning for clients. From 2002 to 2012, he worked as a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley, Axa Advisors, JP Morgan, and Fidelity Investments.
“As we honor our commitment to government affairs on behalf of our member credit unions, we’re thrilled to welcome someone with Garry Mize’s political savvy and expertise to our team,” said Cornerstone League President/CEO Caroline Willard.
