The Texas Credit Union Commission has announced its new commissioner, Michael Riepen, effective Oct. 1, 2022.
The Credit Union Department is charged with supervising, regulating, and examining Texas state-chartered credit unions to safeguard the public interest, protect the financial interest of credit union members, and promote public confidence in credit unions.
Credit Union Commission Chair Jim Minge said, "Mr. Riepen is uniquely qualified to lead the Department given the breadth and depth of his knowledge about the credit union system and his keen sense of emerging issues in the financial services marketplace."
Prior to his recent retirement, Riepen served as the Department’s director of examination support. Prior to that, he served as president and CEO of Texas DPS Credit Union for 26 years.
Riepen said he is honored to accept the position. "Credit unions play a very important role in the Texas economy, and the Department helps ensure the credit union system is best positioned to meet the challenges of the moment and of the future. I know firsthand the commitment of our staff to our mission, and I want to thank the Credit Union Commission for this opportunity."
