The Austin Chapter of Credit Unions and local area credit unions are coming together to sponsor the House That Credit Unions Built with Austin Habitat for Humanity for the third year in a row. The group has slots available for volunteers to come out and help.
One of the goals of the House That Credit Unions Built is to have employees from multiple credit unions and partners volunteer on each build day so they can meet and network and help provide necessary housing resources to families in need.
The build started Sept. 15 in Austin Habitat’s Scenic Point neighborhood in Northeast Austin off Johnny Morris Road. The kickoff featured a wall-raising with volunteers from A+ FCU, University FCU, Greater Texas FCU, Velocity CU, and Austin Telco. The Austin Chapter provided breakfast, snacks, drinks, and Jason’s Deli boxed lunches for everyone.
At the end of the day, the walls had been raised and the roofing trusses were laid out across the top of the structure. The trusses were to be placed and secured the following day.
