The Cornerstone League Podcast delves into financial literacy through Snigglezoo and GreenPath
In honor of Financial Literacy Month, The Cornerstone League Podcast features Snigglezoo founder and “Chief Mammal” John Lanza and GreenPath Business Development Specialist Andrew Manthei, who share their definitions of financial literacy and what credit unions can do to help promote financial well-being for all.
“So much of [financial literacy] is about the psychology of dealing with money,” said Lanza. “People talk about financial literacy. It’s not an information problem. The information is out there, so the issue is not about a lack of information. It’s about coming to terms with the psychology of money. It’s about having the right behaviors in place more than anything else.”
Manthei said one of GreenPath’s goals is to remix the American Dream to cast a wider net.
“Some people want to buy the house with the white picket fence, but others want to pay off their student loans or travel or have experiences,” said Manthei. “So, the idea of literacy can sometimes be a trap. Everyone has the best of intentions, but the opposite of literacy can be illiteracy, and there are negative connotations that can come from that.”
Listen to the episode to hear what else Lanza and Manthei had to say about financial literacy, why words matter, and how their organizations are helping to empower individuals and families across the nation.
