On April 26, the Cornerstone League Austin Chapter held a rock ‘n’ roll-themed bowling night at the Main Event for Cornerstone Foundation. About 60 people had a great time and raised nearly $1,500 in the process. With a match of dollars, the chapter made their largest-ever contribution of $5,000 to help the Cornerstone Foundation continue its mission of “people helping people."
“This is one of our annual fundraisers for the Cornerstone Foundation,” said Austin Chapter President Allyson Whitehead, whose day job is AVP of lending for Greater Texas FCU. “We also have a popular fundraiser in the fall at Top Golf. Our chapter has been sponsoring these events and supporting our community since 2014, and the events get more fun each year.”
Whitehead said this year’s bowling night attracted 9 six-member credit union teams and another team of vendors. “We pretty much filled up the bowling lanes at Main Event,” she said.
They also had a lot of fun with their rock ‘n’ roll theme and presented an award for the Best Dressed Rock ‘n’ Roll Attire to the team from Greater Texas CU. As for the bowling itself, the University FCU team took home the award for the Highest Team Score, and A+ FCU won the raffle prize.
“I feel like we had a diverse group of CUs participating,” said Whitehead. “We were also just awarded Chapter of the Year for the third year in a row. These types of evenings and the engagement from our chapter members help us strengthen the credit union movement.”
