Your Cornerstone Foundation is ready to help credit union staff and volunteers when disasters strike, including severe storms and tornadoes. Disasters are identified as fire, wind, hail, or flood damages to an individual’s home or vehicle. Payments from the disaster relief fund get distributed directly to those in need to stabilize their lives and enable them to continue serving their members.

“In times of crisis, the Foundation is here to help our credit union volunteers and employees get back on their feet," said Foundation Executive Director Courtney Moran. “We are able to respond because of credit unions' generosity and commitment to ‘people helping people.’”

The Process

The Foundation has established a two-phase process when disasters occur:

  • Phase I: Emergency grants are available to credit union employees and volunteers to assist with immediate disaster relief needs, such as out-of-pocket costs that may result from being evacuated, as well as insurance deductibles and initial property repairs.
  • Phase II: Disaster relief grants are intended to assist credit union employees and volunteers with significant needs. This is implemented after the distribution of a Phase I grant. This phase begins 90 days after the respective disaster and is dependent on the funds available.
