As the credit union industry and the rest of the nation emerges from the coronavirus pandemic, it’s more important now than ever to raise awareness for the credit union movement and the value we offer consumers who have been buffeted by the pandemic. In this issue of Leaguer, we are pleased to welcome new Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union® contributors, who will help us continue to raise credit union awareness and consumer consideration in Texas and Oklahoma.

We also announce a partnership with Justice For Me (JFM), a first-of-its-kind provider enabling access to affordable legal representation to millions of Americans. This partnership will enable credit unions to support their members when they have a legal matter. JFM’s mission is to provide easier access to quality legal representation with its unique service that provides payment plans for legal fees.

Tomorrow CEOs of all affiliated credit unions will receive an invitation to participate in the 2021 Cornerstone Compensation Survey. Cornerstone will provide the survey results free of charge as a dues-supported benefit exclusively for League members. Remember, as your credit union takes part in the survey, you are helping other credit unions as well, since active participation rates produce data that is current, accurate, and geographically representative. This year’s survey will be conducted entirely online, and the deadline to complete the survey is May 28.

And, Credit Unions for Kids will host a 25-Year Anniversary Celebration Event on Wednesday, June 2. During this 30-minute virtual event, you will hear from industry leaders discussing the milestones CU4Kids has reached, the innovative ways they’ve raised funds, and why they do so. CMN Hospitals representatives will also discuss updates to the program, recommendations on how to easily raise money, and the future of the program.

We’ve also got some member news to share.

El Paso Area Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU) will award a total of 10 scholarships to local students this year. TFCU will offer nine $1,000 scholarships and one $2,000 scholarship, The Charles Hart Memorial Scholarship, in honor of the late board member.

Border Federal Credit Union of Del Rio, Texas, announced that Roxanne Soto has been promoted to chief financial officer. Soto, who joined BFCU as an accounting manager in 2013, holds an MS degree in accounting. The credit union said that her knowledge, skills, and experience make her an asset to the organization and its operations.
