Kay Rankin-Swan, president and CEO of Ward County Credit Union, has been named the winner of the 2021 Cornerstone League Small Credit Union Achiever of the Year Award.
The award recognizes the exemplary efforts of credit union professionals dedicated to serving credit unions under $50 million in assets.
Ward County Credit Union, located in Monahans, Texas, has assets of $19.4 million and more than 1,000 members. During Rankin-Swan’s tenure as CEO, the credit union has doubled in asset size. She began her career at the credit union 27 years ago.
Rankin-Swan has served on the Cornerstone Small Credit Union Committee for more than 10 years. She has been active with the Cornerstone Governmental Affairs Committees as well, representing her credit union and Cornerstone in Austin and in Washington D.C.
“Kay lives, breaths and promotes credit unions continually,” said Steve Tuxhorn, Ward County Credit Union chairman of the board in his nomination letter. “She has made numerous trips to the Texas State Capitol and Washington, D.C. to meet with elected government officials to discuss credit union and banking laws and regulation.”
Tuxhorn said Rankin-Swan is currently serving a six-year term on the Texas Credit Union Commission, whose nine members are appointed by Governor Greg Abbott. The commission oversees the Texas Credit Union Department, which regulates Texas state-chartered credit unions.
Rankin-Swan also teaches a class on financial basics to students in a local school and is a member of the Monahans Chamber of Commerce and Monahans Lions Club.
Cornerstone congratulates Kay Rankin-Swan for her many efforts on behalf of small credit unions and on receiving the 2021 Small Credit Union Achiever of the Year Award. She will be honored at Cornerstone League’s upcoming annual meeting, IMPACT Virtual, at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 9. Click here to learn more about IMPACT Virtual.
