May ALM Workshops coming to Longview and Houston

The Cornerstone Credit Union League is offering regional Asset/Liability Management (ALM) Workshops, equipping you with tools and techniques to help you manage your credit union’s ALM process more effectively.

Led by ALM & Financial Analysis Director Deborah Rightmire, these workshops provide an excellent opportunity for management, staff, SCMS students, ALCO members, and boards to enhance their knowledge.

Day one: ALM Essentials
9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

This full-day workshop is designed for credit union employees and board members who desire a better understanding of basic ALM fundamentals. Topics include:

  • Identifying the primary goals of Asset/Liability Management;
  • Understanding ALM’s monthly ABAJO Key Ratio Report and the National Credit Union Administration’s Financial Performance Report (FPR);
  • Analyzing your credit union’s key financial ratios;
  • Reviewing an expense analysis and its implications;
  • Pricing loans and deposits based on market indicators; and
  • Reviewing the risk-focused examination process.

Day two: ALM Implementation
9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

This advanced, five-hour session provides the tools to implement an effective ALM process in your credit union. During the session, you’ll learn about:

  • Measuring interest-rate risk/sensitivity using a static GAP model;
  • Organizing a successful ALM process;
  • Creating guidelines for an effective ALM policy;
  • Developing guidelines for an effective investment policy;
  • Building a consistent ALCO agenda;
  • Monitoring and measuring liquidity; and
  • Reviewing broker/dealer due diligence.
