Question: We had a non-member come in asking what kind of paperwork or legal action they needed to take to make a claim on a deceased member’s estate. What do you recommend we tell them?
Answer: I would never advise that you provide any legal advice to any person regarding estate matters. If that person needs an interpretation or recommendation, I would let them know to pursue legal counsel. We never want to put our credit unions at risk for providing legal advice or practicing law without a license.
