While obtaining a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) certification can be a rewarding experience for your credit union, the journey to earn the designation can be complex. To help credit unions navigate the process, Cornerstone has created a member-only CDFI resource hub to equip leaders with the knowledge and support to make informed decisions and determine if pursuing certification aligns with their credit union goals and mission.

The resource hub assists credit unions exploring CDFI certification and those who have already earned the designation. This includes general housing information to help members understand what it means to be CDFI-certified and why it matters for credit unions and the communities they serve.

  • National and state-specific CDFI statistics that provide insight into the broader impact of CDFI institutions and where opportunities exist within the region.

  • Grant assistance information to help credit unions achieve certification.

  • Mentorship program to connect members with leaders of CDFI-certified credit unions within the five-state region who can share guidance and support.

  • Comprehensive resource list of CDFI providers, tools, and references.

  • Testimonial videos from Cornerstone members who have successfully navigated the journey to CDFI certification.

Nationally, about 11% of credit unions in 47 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico are designated as CDFIs. In the Cornerstone region, about 6% of credit unions are CDFI-certified.

A Cornerstone login is required to access the member-only CDFI resource hub.
