Cornerstone was saddened to hear about the passing of Watt Prichard, retired president/CEO of River City Federal Credit Union and former chairman of the Texas Credit Union League board.
Prichard began volunteering with credit unions in 1972. An accountant by trade, he later worked as an NCUA examiner for Region 5 before joining the then-San Antonio Telephone Federal Credit Union in 1986. During Prichard’s tenure, the credit union changed its name to River City FCU in 2002.
Prichard retired in 2009, having led River City for 23 years. He built the San Antonio-based credit union from $23 million in assets to $150 million. Throughout his 41-year career, he was a staunch credit union advocate and famous for his collaborative spirit.
In a 2002 interview with the Credit Union Times, Prichard said, “Any segment of society can be served cooperatively and profitably. It's an art form; there is no formula.”
May his wisdom and memory live on.
