On Thursday, June 23, the Sabine Chapter of Credit Unions, located in Southeast Texas, held a chapter mixer. The mixer served as an opportunity for members of the chapter to give back to their community, which is truly what we as credit unions are all about.

Those attending the mixer were asked to bring canned goods and other non-perishable food items to be donated to the Southeast Texas Food Bank. In fact, there was even a raffle, the more you brought, the greater your chance to win prizes donated by area credit unions.

The Southeast Texas Food Bank distributes food to low-income members of communities through their association with more than 100 social service agencies and 40 qualified schools in their service territory.

What I personally love about working for a credit union are the many ways we give back to our communities and neighbors. That’s when your job turns into a passion.

Our guest speaker for the YP mixer was none other than Cornerstone League’s Gretchen Ziegler, credit union relations VP, who spoke about the importance of our TCCUL political action committee (PAC).

The purpose of our PAC is to pool contributions from members and credit union employees, which are then donated to campaigns for pro-credit union candidates and elected officials. We rely on these credit union champions to ensure legislation and initiatives that are favorable to credit unions and improve the lives of our members. As credit union employees and members, we want our donations to go to candidates that support the credit union movement and look out for our best interests.

Have a great weekend everyone, and may we always strive to give to those in need.
