YP Committee Gives Back to the Community, Promotes CU Difference
Tuesday, December 6, 2016 6:55 AM

CCATCU YPsOn Nov. 24, a newly formed Young Professionals Committee in South Texas donated more than 200 "blessing bags" to the Mother Theresa Shelter in honor of Thanksgiving. The blessing bags consisted of personal care items and snacks for the homeless.

Lisa Valdez, business development officer for Coastal Community and Teachers Credit Union, is leading the credit union's new YP Committee, which has about 30 individuals age 40 and younger. The committee was organized in late September and the group had its first meeting on Nov. 1. Valdez reports that the group made it a priority to understand the credit union difference and to embody that difference in their interactions with their community.

"We are meeting up and getting our Young Professionals involved and engaged. It's our way of giving back," Valdez said. "It was amazing to see my team come together to create these blessing bags as a team and hand them out as a team."

#CCATCUYPDavid Garcia, relationship manager for business development and a member of the YP Committee said, "It was an honor to serve the community."

“It was an amazing experience for my team to give back to those in need,” said Valdez. “It was a small act. When multiplied by other acts, we can be the difference in our community.”

Valdez reports they have many wonderful ideas for the upcoming year, as well.
