World Council Offers Your Money, Your Matters Listeners Update on Disaster Relief Efforts in Philippines
Wednesday, November 13, 2013 6:45 AM

Calyn Ostrowski, Worldwide Foundation Director for the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) was a special guest yesterday on the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s Your Money, Your Matters blog talk radio program. Ostrowski provided an update on relief efforts in the Philippines following the devastating Typhoon.

According to reports, typhoon Haiyan has killed an estimated 10,000 people. The situation has the potential to worsen should displaced credit union members and others not receive necessary assistance. WOCCU has worked with Philippine credit unions since 1996 and the most recent project focused on model credit union building and institutional branding. World Council has committed resources, including donations made to the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, to alleviate suffering of Philippine citizens who are credit union members.

The Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation Board of Trustees has donated $3,500 to relief efforts. On yesterday’s program, Ostrowski thanked the Cornerstone Foundation for their continued support.

Credit unions can donate to relief efforts, by clicking here or send contributions by check or wire to: Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, Inc., 5710 Mineral Point Road, Madison, WI 53705, USA. Note in memo "Philippine Disaster Relief Fund.”
