Will Your Credit Union Comply with the 2015 Debt Collection Act?
Wednesday, December 17, 2014 6:45 AM

The Bankruptcy and Collections Seminars will be held back to back again in Cornerstone Credit Union League's 2015 training schedule. Both seminars are beneficial for anyone that works with lending or collections at your credit union.

One focus of the Collections Seminar will be the 2015 Debt Collection Act and how your credit union can maintain compliance with it. Anyone at your credit union that is contacting members about collecting must have a clear understanding of this act because it affects various compliance issues in credit unions, such as collections policies and procedures. Part of the Collections Seminar will cover effective telephone techniques and strategies.

The Bankruptcy Seminar will include an in-depth discussion on current and emerging problems in bankruptcy courts that are costing credit unions millions. These problems include automatic stay issues in regard to post-petition repossessions, payroll deductions, credit reporting, and other violations. In just the last year, reaffirmation agreements have changed. Those changes will be discussed as well as proofs of claims; both of which are exposing credit unions to serious liability. Essentials for anyone new to the bankruptcy world will also be covered.

Charlie Williams will be teaching the Bankruptcy Seminar while Mike Blalack will be teaching the Collections Seminar.

The first Bankruptcy and Collections Seminars of 2015 will be held on Feb. 18-19 in Dallas. For other dates, more information, or to register, please visit the Bankruptcy & Collections Seminars page.
