Will You Join Us for the 2017 Texas Credit Union Association GAC?
Tuesday, December 6, 2016 6:35 AM

Texas GACThe 2017 Texas Credit Union Association Governmental Affairs Conference, which is held every other year when the Legislature is in session, will be at the Driskill Hotel in Austin on Feb. 14–15, 2017.

Register by Jan. 16 and get the early bird rate!

A welcome reception will be held on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 14. Briefings on legislative and regulatory issues will occur Wednesday morning, and visits to the Capitol to meet with lawmakers will take place on Wednesday afternoon.

The Texas Legislature impacts the operations of state and federally chartered credit unions alike, including bills they might pass on safe deposit box regulation, priority of liens, security interest in collateral, probate and requirements related to accounts, private share insurance, repossessing of vehicles and vehicle storage fees for non-consent tows, insurance and labor laws, consumer protection laws, and more.

When state and federal credit unions come together in Austin, they help protect dual chartering and push back efforts to impose more requirements, while advocating for improved authority to provide products and services to credit union members.

Take advantage of the opportunity to join with other credit union leaders from across the state to discuss all the issues that matter with your elected officials. Issues such as data security breaches, protecting lienholder interests, improvements to the home equity lending law, protecting the credit union tax status, opposing increased regulatory burdens, financial elder abuse, and keeping an independent credit union department with SDSI (semi-independent, self-directed) status.

CEOs, board members, and key staff should all plan to be in Austin Feb. 14 and 15 to work on legislative issues impacting your credit union. Registration and more information can be found on the Cornerstone Credit Union League website here.
