Wichita Falls Teachers Federal Credit Union gave away 10 $1,500 scholarships to area seniors this year, continuing a tradition of providing scholarships to local high school seniors since 1995. The financial assistance is given for the college or university of the recipient's choice.

"We're very proud of our scholarship program," said Wichita Falls Teachers CEO Angela Clark. "Our board of directors has been very generous since we started in 1995. We have grown in both the dollar amount and number of scholarships awarded, and we increased the dollar amount to $1,500 this year for a total of $15,000."

To qualify for a scholarship, the student must be a member in good standing with the credit union and a graduating senior. Their GPA, honors and awards, and school activities are all taken into consideration as well as two letters of recommendation and a hand-written essay on “What Education Means to Me.”

"I'm also happy to say that we received more applications this year than we've ever had before," Clark said. "We understand the value of education and being able to offer scholarships, and playing a small part in the future success of these gifted, young individuals means a lot to us."

It was a lucky day on Friday, May 13, as the scholarship recipients and their families enjoyed homemade ice cream at a reception hosted by the credit union.
