Why It's Important to R.O.A.R.
Friday, September 13, 2013 7:00 AM

Transtar FCU in Houston, Texas just joined the ranks of more than 60 credit unions that have signed up for CU: R.O.A.R., the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s advocacy program that connects credit unions with lawmakers.  R.O.A.R. stands for Ready, Organize, Activate, and Respond.

Credit unions that sign up for R.O.A.R. commit to identifying credit union staff, volunteers and members who are willing to become politically active, and, take action when alerted to critical legislative or regulatory issues affecting your credit union.

When asked why he feels that it is important for his credit union to participate in CU: R.O.A.R., Transtar FCU CEO James Tuggle’s answer was simple, “We can’t afford not to.”

Tuggle went on to say, “With Congress now considering comprehensive tax reform, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) continuing to hand down new rules, credit unions of all asset sizes must be informed and engaged as never before.  Changes in laws and regulations can have a big impact on our operations and our ability to serve our members.  R.O.A.R. facilitates the essential activities such as PAC support and grassroots engagement that helps us to increase our political power, move lawmakers and protect the interests of our members.”
