If you had $300 to give away, who would you help? WesTex Federal Credit Union in Lubbock, Texas, has helped thousands of folks through their “Pay It Forward” efforts. Every week WesTex FCU and the local KCBD TV station team up to help those in their community, and the hope is that others will see the good deeds and pay it forward.

“We believe one of our purposes in life is to help others, and that is what these random acts of kindness allow us to do,” said Vicki Love, CEO of WesTex FCU.

This summer alone, WesTex FCU has helped in countless ways. From showing up at a local swimming pool and handing out money for entry fees and a snack to supplying non-perishable food and pet food to the Meals on Wheels organization. One week WesTex supplied “survival kits” and hygiene products to the Red Cross. Another week they provided breakfast and snacks for kids at the Bridge of Lubbock Summer Camps and gave them extra sporting equipment to make sure the camp was well supplied this summer.

WesTex FCU Meals on WheelsPay It Forward gets out in the community and fulfills requests from those nominated or picked at random. Mike Arriaga, vice president of WesTex, recently indicated that the team is assisting an in-home daycare operator to repair their broken oven. Others are drawn to the Pay It Forward sign in random places in Lubbock and are able to pick someone they know in need of $300.

Employees also get involved in the Pay It Forward initiative. Arriaga said a different employee is picked every week. WesTex FCU is all about helping others; Pay It Forward has kept them connected to their community.
