WEOKIE Program Reaches 50k Student Milestone, Receives Awards

Since its inception in 2007, the Money Talks financial literacy program has been offered in more than 1,900 classrooms to more than 50,000 students. 

Money Talks is a guest speaker series developed to help teachers cover the 14 financial literary standards mandated by the Oklahoma Passport to Financial Literacy Act. Popular sessions include budgeting, credit, and identify theft.

To celebrate Money Talks 50,000th student, WEOKIE is hosting Money Talks Mania, a personal finance trivia event, with 70 students from John Marshall High School Academy of Finance on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 9 a.m. to noon, at John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City, Okla.

WEOKIE’s Money Talks Financial Literacy Program 2016 Accomplishments:

  • Reached 50,000th student.
  • Received two awards from the National Youth Involvement Board.  Tabatha Thurman, Financial Education Specialist, recognized as the United States credit union employee with highest number of students reached, 10,948, and most presentations given, 384, during a school year.
  • Recognized for leadership in youth financial education by the Cornerstone Credit Union League with a first place Desjardin Youth Financial Education Award.
