Voice, Fingerprints, Eyes—Oh My! “Breaking Barriers to Biometrics” in Credit Union Management

The future of consumers gaining secure self-service access to their private financial information could lie in the rapidly advancing biometrics field.

That’s no surprise. Think about what you’d consider to be your most unique personal identifier. What’s the one object that truly identifies you as you? The answer is simple: you. No one else has your fingerprints, eyes, face, or voice—your biometrics. And no one should be able to use these personal attributes to gain unauthorized access to your information.

But the rush to biometrics is one that financial institutions should make carefully. As devices like Apple’s iPhone 5s put biometric technology into consumers’ hands, we’ve spent some time considering what this might mean for our customers. My recent byline article in Credit Union Management talks about the barrier to widespread biometric technology adoption and gives FI executives a better understanding of what this technology could mean for their businesses.
