Melissa Vela

Melissa Vela, People’s Trust Federal Credit Union's business development representative, received the 2018 Life Member Award from the Greater Houston Partnership. She received the award for her leadership, excellence, and commitment to the Partnership and Houston communities.

The Greater Houston Partnership represents an 11-county region and considers all area chambers as allies in working to achieve one mission: to make Houston one of the world’s best places to live, work, and build a business.

Ambassadors who achieved 88 percent retention of assigned member accounts by the deadline received the Life Membership Award. Life membership affords the individual ambassador the equivalent of an Associate level membership and benefits included with this level for his/her lifetime. This honor travels with the recipient regardless of the current employer.

Vela has been in the financial services industry for 13 years, beginning in 2005 as a high school teller intern. She joined the credit union movement in 2009 and has proven to be a top performer in all her financial industry retail roles. She joined People’s Trust as an account executive in January 2017 specializing in business development.

In addition to the Greater Houston Partnership, Vela serves as an ambassador in the East End Chamber. She also participates in the Cornerstone Credit Union League Young Professional Advisors and is an active member of her community. She received her Bachelors of Science in business management from the University of Houston – Clear Lake in 2014.

Vela believes “financial wellness works” because she trusts that learning is power, and knowledge translates to confidence, making financial wellness confidence key.
