Upcoming Workshop Promises to Re-ignite Your Passion
Wednesday, May 28, 2014 6:30 AM

The National Credit Union Foundation and Credit Union Development Educators (CUDE) are hosting the annual CUDE workshop Aug. 12-14 in Austin. University FCU is hosting the two-day program that is designed to re-ignite your passion for development through dynamic speakers, small group work, community outreach visits, and networking. Attendees will leave with new skills, energized and motivated to help the credit union movement be the best and most strategic community partner it can be.

Program highlights include:

  • Can credit unions be the catalyst for community development?: Featuring William Azaroff with Vancity CU, this session examines what makes a credit union relevant, important and meaningful. Azaroff will share the story of Vancity, a highly successful credit with a brand fully steeped in values-based banking whose vision is to  redefine wealth — to re-envision prosperity as something we can only achieve if we are surrounded by and connected to a vibrant, healthy community that is sustainable for the long-term.
  • Development issues visits: The development issues used in DE training has been consistent over the past 33 years. The focus continues on health, hunger, housing, access to credit, savings mobilization, appropriate technology, democratic principles, women in development, education, income generation, employment and environment. Six groups of participants will do a “deep dive” into one of the development issues though site visits, as well as lessons from community organizers, consumer conversations, group research and an innovation lab.
  • Mission into Action – What DEs Can Do: Featuring NCUF Executive Director Gigi Hyland explores the importance of creating awareness and the powerful role it plays in realizing the vision that the credit union movement has for its members and communities. By creating awareness, you are working to remove barriers by showing what credit unions can and are doing to foster service excellence and by setting a standard for all credit unions to meet or exceed. Hyland will share how credit unions can more strategically create awareness while living the credit union difference.
