Unity One Supply Giveaway

Unity One Credit Union in Fort Worth held its tenth annual “Gear Up 4 School” supply giveaway on Aug. 20 at its Stockyards branch. The event, created to be a resource for families, gives children school-mandated supplies while exposing them to supportive small businesses and organizations in the community.

Despite the bad weather, the credit union distributed more than 400 drawstring backpacks containing items such as pencils, notebooks, crayons, and scissors. Supplies were distributed on a first come, first served basis, and the students receiving the supplies had to be present.

“This event is one of the most powerful ways we give back to the communities we serve each year," said Gary Williams, president of Unity One. "We are glad to be able to help so many children get the supplies they need to excel in school."

In addition to the backpacks and supplies, attendees enjoyed free food from Dickey’s BBQ, a dance-off between Unity One’s mascot Max and the Chuck E. Cheese mouse, and they visited booths manned by local businesses and organizations, including the Fort Worth Library, LULAC, and Caucas de North Texas.
