Understand the Shifting Economic Winds at Southwest Lending Conference

How great is your understanding of where the U.S. economy is today and how that affects your credit union? Thomas Siems, assistant vice president and a senior economist in the Financial Institution Relationship Management Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas will address the issue at the May 18-20 Southwest Lending Conference in Oklahoma City.

In his energetic session, "Charting a Path to Lift Off: Understanding the Shifting Economic Winds," Siems will examine and compare emerging U.S. and regional economic conditions and trends; review the various perspectives of the unemployment rate; and discuss Federal Reserve policymakers’ concerns and challenges in making future decisions.
Siems partners with economists at the Fed to gather information on emerging trends and policy issues of interest to financial institutions. He also teaches operations research and management science courses in the Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University and is the Lyle School's chief engineering economist.

Siems earned a BSE in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan and an MS and PhD in operations research from SMU. He is also a graduate of the University of Michigan's Public Finance Institute, the University of Colorado's Graduate School of Banking and SMU's Graduate Marketing Certificate program.

He is the National Association for Business Economics' only two-time winner of the Edmund A. Mennis Contributed Paper Award; and his work has received extensive attention from leading publications, including the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, The Economist, USA Today, American Banker, Dallas Morning News, and Investor's Business Daily.
