Two Successful Events Kicked off the Credit Unions Care Rides for 2017
Wednesday, July 26, 2017 6:55 AM

CU Ride in Tulsa

The first two of five Credit Unions Care rides in 2017 were held this past weekend, with credit union staff and volunteers, motorcycle enthusiasts, and community members joining together to deliver stuffed-animal dogs to sick children and their siblings at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. These rides and visits show the continuing support by credit unions of the Children’s Miracle Network and the communities in which they live and work.

The first ride took place on Friday, July 21 and was in Oklahoma City, starting at the Credit Union House of Oklahoma, and ending at OU Children’s Hospital. The second ride took place the next day, July 22 in Tulsa, starting at Oklahoma Central Credit Union and ending at St. Francis Children’s Hospital.

motorcyclesEmployees from Communication FCU, Tinker FCU, and True Sky Credit Union, along with Cornerstone employees from Plano and Oklahoma City, participated in the ride on Friday. Attendees were welcomed with cookies, tea and water and they headed to the hospital at 3:30 p.m. where they took a tour and handed out stuffed Credit Unions Care dogs to patients and visitors. This was the first visit with the new Credit Unions Care mascot, Champ, and his presence was extremely well-received by the children.

The next day, Oklahoma Central Credit Union hosted the kick-off with employees from Red Crown Credit Union, TTCU the Credit Union, and Muskogee FCU. They were joined by more than 75 bikers, 103.3 the Eagle, a local radio station, and some very cool vintage cars for the kick off of the ride at Oklahoma Central Credit Union, where donuts, coffee and gadgets for the kids were provided.

Champ“I was blown away by the number of credit union employees and bikers who showed up for this event. Bikes kept pulling into the parking lot and at one point I thought we might run out of room!” said Gina Wilson, President and CEO of Oklahoma Central Credit Union. “We can’t wait to get started planning for next year’s ride.” The bikers, along with attendees in their cars, made a huge statement of support and solidarity driving or riding down Riverside, a local road to the St. Francis Children’s Hospital. Everyone involved in the ride was given the option to visit children to hand out the stuffed dogs and spread a little joy.
