Eastex Credit Union's Troyce Taylor was awarded the 2017 Volunteer of the Year award during last week's Volunteers Forum in the Big Easy, also known as New Orleans. In so doing, he was recognized for his many accomplishments and his dedication of time and effort in support of the credit union movement.

Taylor was instrumental in starting the Eastex Pulp and Paper Federal Credit Union, known today as Eastex Credit Union. He has served on the board of directors for the past six decades, re-elected each time by his peers. He is civic minded, having served on the Evadale School Board and the Jasper County Appraisal District, and he runs the election polls each year. He also worked tirelessly to get the water and sewage plant operational for the residents of Evadale.

"He has been unofficially called the Mayor of Evadale," said Eastex President and CEO Loretta Chatagnia. "Mr. Taylor is an asset to Eastex Credit Union. He understands all aspects of the credit union business and is very strategic and forward thinking. Mr. Taylor walks the walk and talks the talk. He is 'people helping people."

Taylor retired as a supervisor from MeadWestvaco Paper Mill in Evadale, Texas. After his retirement, he obtained his license to finance home equity and mortgage loans. He is active in his church St. Marks in Silsbee. With wife Rose, he has five children and many grand- and great-grandchildren.
