Tinker Federal Credit Union's Susan Rogers, senior vice president of human resources, was named HR Professional of the Year at the 2015 HR Conference in Oklahoma City. Rogers has, so far, enjoyed a 37-year career in human resources—25 of them at Tinker FCU, based in Oklahoma City.

In a credit union with a diverse organizational structure and a workforce of more than 600 employees, an HR professional's expertise is critical. Rogers participates directly in the strategic planning process and the development of her credit union's annual five-year plan. She directs the HR initiative by developing policies, procedures, and practices that align with the credit union's mission, vision, values, and goals.

Rogers has advocated for creating a diverse work environment and served as the business coordinator for INROADS OK, an organization that develops and places talented minority youth in business and industry and prepares them for corporate and community leadership. She helped develop teller training that has evolved into a comprehensive university program designed to communicate the organization’s culture and foster the development of employee job skills such has leadership, creative thinking, and problem solving.

Rogers is also very active outside the credit union, participating in such groups as the Society for Human Resource Management, Southwest Benefits Association, and Oklahoma City Human Resource Society. She is well known in Oklahoma for her knowledge and expertise, and is always willing to take a call from another credit union professional seeking HR advice.

She earned a bachelor of science in organizational leadership from Southern Nazarene University in 2001; received her Senior Professional in Human Resources certification; and participated in the Certified Credit Union Executive Program.

Tinker FCU President and CEO Michael Kloiber said of his nominee, "We are definitely a better credit union and employer because of her expertise. There's no better employee advocate; no one who is more concerned with our employees and the integration of their daily efforts to reach our service promises to our members."
