Time Capsule Provides Reflection on Oklahoma Central CU's History
Thursday, October 6, 2016 6:50 AM

On Sept. 28, a gathering 19 years in the making provided a blast from the past for a few dozen onlookers and online viewers as two time capsules were unearthed in celebration of the Oklahoma Central Credit Union’s 75th anniversary.

Employee alumni who were present when the capsules were buried in 1997 were reunited for the special occasion. The placing of the time capsules coincided with the remodel and reopening of the Garnett branch at 41st and Garnett.

The capsules contained numerous photos, a Wallyball (volleyball played in a racquetball court) trophy, money, financial documents, newspaper clippings, and a Bucky the Eagle hand puppet, which was the Kids Club mascot at the time. The capsules weren’t watertight and the revealed contents were waterlogged when removed.

The ceremony was broadcast live via the Oklahoma Central Facebook page so that members and employees could participate in the evening event.
